| Oh my that's a big TV (4/3/2003) |
This is a big mother of a tv. It's big. I mean HUGE! It's a 1981 RCA 50" front projection tv. The thing that surprised me the most about it was that the internal tuner only supports 12 channels at any one time. And....EACH channel has to be individually tuned!! After 15 minutes of trying to tune in MTV, I gave up. I now have my cable plugged into a VCR (via coax), and that VCR plugged into my new huge tv via composite video/audio (thank goodness it had that). The VCR supports 2 additional composite video/audio inputs which will make using the PS2 a cinch. The bulbs will supposedly last for 10 years (and were last replaced ~7 years ago). The machine is in pristine condition....and only $75!!! Man i love Micronews.
So, now the audio is controlled on the TV and the channels on the VCR..what to do (from a remote control perspective)?
Never fear!! I use my iPaq 3955 as my remote control (the 3900 series has a commercial grade (power) IR in it and an excellent remote program). I merely created a custom remote that controls the TV's volume but the VCR's channels...it's perfect.

Here you can see the amount of space I need when this thing is opened (for the projector). You can also get a comparison of the size of the screen to that 27" in the background. (Behind the tv you can see my 110+ DVD collection) |
Look at that screen...isn't it pretty? I watched crap for a few hours the night I got it just because it felt like I was watching TV for the first time again. |
Check out the insides. Theres a R,G,B (i think) projector in there, and it projects off of a mirror onto the screen. |
Another wonderful angle. |
And here's yet another angle. |
And another...(you can see the VCR on it's side there. I'll be putting the PS2 right next to it in a similar fashion. Space constrainsts, ya know?) |
